Trump blinks in ‘trade-war’ with China

Video grab of Trump on American policies

With China targeting U.S. exports and goods hailing from pro-Trump voting banks, the U.S. President blinked first saying his country is not in a trade war with Beijing.

on Wednesday (April 4), President Donald Trump tweeted: “We are not in a trade war with China, that war was lost many years ago by the foolish, or incompetent, people who represented the US.

Now, we have a trade deficit of US$500 billion a year, with intellectual property theft of another US$300 billion. We cannot let this continue!

However, the White House is brushing off Beijing’s threat to target American products with retaliatory tariffs.

It said that bringing China into line on “fair and reciprocal” trade will be good for the United States and the international trading system.

“When you are already US$500 billion down, you can’t lose!” said Trump.

But winking at China while the latter is planning a massive retaliation exercise is already seen as a sort of capitulation by the Americans ahead of ‘trade’ talks between the U.S. and China.

Nevertheless, some analysts believe Trump is trying to cool down the Chinese attack on U.S. goods.

  1. There will be no trade war initiated by US, where they can ill afford under existing poor economic condition & highest debts at extra US$1T per 6mths. Unemployment rate is very high with Obama systematically lying to report improvement through manipulating numbers & reporting parameters.

China can survive very well without US trade (15% of total export?), with its wide market, $4T reserve which a sell down of US treasury could spark financial crisis for US mkt, and a nation prepared to back their gov trade war.

But not for US that has hallowed out its manufacturing completely. murkans are not prepare to pay few times higher price for alternative nor can they produce themselves within few yrs. They have low tolerance of any discomfort, no one support a trade war.

The tariffs will only increase murkans buying price and tax revenue for US gov since murkans have no alternative not to buy China products like iphone. Its a tax scam, & a way Trumps use to blackmail China which has backfired now.

But China may want to proceed in view of geopolitical needs to help release pressure for Russia in Syria war to keep USM from escalating it, while awaiting Petrol Yuan to uproot USM petrol dollar lifeline.

If USM withdraw from Syria, China can stop trade war & give some concession to make Trumps happy & win next election. Then Syria war end, Iran is safe, North Korea safe, Bri proceed, win win win for everyone, a peaceful world with prosperity.
